On 28th January, the Australian Geothermal Association (AGA) and the Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two organisations, fostering a close working relationship between the countries. The online ceremony included addresses from Abd Rasid Jaapar (President of IGM) and Mark Ballesteros (President of AGA), as well as an update from John Bishop (Chairman of Solution Energy) regarding Solution Energy's current work in Malaysia.

Malaysia is recognised for its geothermal potential, but has not as yet completed any significant geothermal developments. This is set to change, as IGM has recently embarked on the first pilot geothermal project in Malaysia, with the cooperation of SEDA (Malaysia's Sustainable Energy Development Authority). This advancement in geothermal progress has been the catalyst for IGM and AGA signing this MOU, supporting networking and collaboration between both Malaysia and Australia's geothermal industries. Solution Energy, one of AGA's corporate members, is currently working on a project based in Malaysia, and joined the MOU signing ceremony to highlight the collaborative opportunities between the two nations.

The intention of the MOU is to encourage knowledge-sharing and cooperation between AGA and IGM, resulting in a strengthened global network and increasing both organisations' geothermal expertise. AGA is excited at the prospective results of this MOU, and would like to extend its thanks to IGM for their initative in proposing this collaboration. AGA members can read the MOU in the section below.
